Social Entrepreneurship & Poverty Reduction
Promoting alternative sources of livelihood in fish farming and animal husbandry for the rural poor
Fish farming and Animal husbandry are not part of B-BOVID’s core business but as part of the company’s innovations, B-BOVID has converted fresh water running through its field into a fish farm for demonstration. To further the objective of social entrepreneurship and poverty reduction, B-BOVID is trying to replicate this in the rural communities by training small scale farmers to use fresh water bodies around their farms for fish farming.
The company also supports the farmers to take up animal husbandry. The beneficiaries of the modules are provided with fish, animal feed, training and advisory services. These diverse and alternative sources of livelihood ensure that the rural people have regular income, en-sure food security and reduce malnutrition.
Reinvestment for Expansion & SHARED Profit with small scale rural farmers (A true social entrepreneurship)
B-BOVID is a business that is driving a transformational change. Profits generated by the company are reinvested for expansion and the rest is shared with the small scale farmers whose produce are used by the company.
Limited access to finance is a major challenge crippling agriculture production in Ghana. Small scale farmers are generally poor because they are unable to raise capital to cultivate their farm lands.
B-BOVID is pleased to announce the establishment of a “Shared Fund”, another novelty in B-BOVID’s inclusive and social entrepreneurship program. The aim of the Shared Fund is sharing our profit with our out-growers as an extra income to improve their standard of living. This is a relationship that ensures that our small scale farmers grow with us.
Vegetable production as another source of income for the people
B-BOVID sees a big opportunity in the discovery of oil in the region and is positioning itself to use its facilities and business model to set up a vegetable out-grower scheme. The company would act as a nucleus farmer and be a source of supply of organic food for the hotels, Oil Upstream companies and the general public. In so doing, the company would be extending its job and wealth creation, poverty reduction, and environmental projects to benefit more small scale farmers and the youth in the region and elsewhere.
